why_i_write

Last week, my friend Meg from Adventuring Home gave me a big thumbs up and passed on the shiny, gold, glittery ‘blogging baton’ over to me, asking me ‘why I write’.

I’ve never really thought of myself as a ‘writer’; perhaps more of a storyteller. I have this (sometimes funny) ability to turn an ordinary, every day story into the next block buster thriller and whilst it allows me to squeeze out my thoughts and feelings onto a page like a tube of toothpaste, my writing really does give me just as much clarity, joy and value as it does to anyone else who reads it.

Let’s dive into the questions, shall we:

What am I working on?

Beefin’ this baby up! My darling Feed Me is still an infant, and whilst she has been the home of my thoughts, advice and wisdom from a few different parts of the world already, I am working on bringing you more killer posts that dive deeper into what it means to live without limits, own your health and create your ideal lifestyle. I want my Feed Me Family (you!) to feel supported and equipped to face any fear or challenge that may rear its ugly head and try to kill your dream, because knowledge is power and the support of a mentor is priceless.

I am also working on officially launching my coaching practice, and finalising a lifestyle design tool and mini recipe book just for you! Exciting times ahead!

How does my writing differ to others in my genre?

I don’t TELL you how its done. I don't pretend to have all the answers. I am not going to give you the ten steps to having a happy, fun, healthy life. Because there are no ten glittery, shiny steps. I live a life that is no different to yours. There’s the good bits, the not-so-good bits, and then there are the times when I feel plain old lost. And this is all NORMAL!

Feed Me is experiential. I write about thoughts/feelings/experiences as I go through them, in the hope that someone may resonate with it at that particular time and use it in their own growth and healing. I shine a light on the parts of my life that feed me, and that allow me to be the best version of myself, in order to inspire and empower others to design their life around what feeds them. In showing my Feed Me Family what works for me and my clients, I hope to keep that fire burning inside you for just a minute longer, so you too can essentially take life by the balls and ‘call this world your bitch’!

Why do I write?

"We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect" // Anais Nin

It’s like a counselling session, every time I let the words spill out onto the screen. Writing gets out all the short, loud outbursts of information that spin around in my head, and gives me the space to sort through them and focus my attention on what matters most.

I write because I love the feeling of having a single idea or thought, and allowing this force within me to take over and consume the page before me. I never know how it is going to turn out. I never know what direction it may lead me in. The final conclusions and thoughts all live in an unknown, mysterious place that only my subconscious mind has the map for, and in surrendering to the flow of words I am being led blindfolded to somewhere magical that I have never been before. It’s an adventure in itself, and I don’t even need to leave my home.

I also write because it gives me a voice. It allows me to share the thoughts that live deep within me, without waiting for that perfect time, conversation or person to enter my life. I can connect with thousands of people whom I have never met, simply by sharing what feeds me, and in turn what may feed them. Writing (and blogging) is pretty darn cool for that!

How does my writing process work?

It usually begins as a one liner written in my iphone notes app. And then as inspiration comes over me like a wave, I will either crash and burn and decide to step away from the computer; or I will ride the whole process with ease and exhiliration as the wave takes me on twists and turns and has me feeling alive the whole way through until its done and that last half hour has felt like 30 seconds.

It’s unpredictable. The way life should be.

It's now my turn to pass on the blogging baton and ask three amazing women why they write. This is the part I have been looking forward to the most, because each of these lovely ladies bring something unique and genuine to the table. They inspire me daily with their truth, and make me feel incredibly blessed to be a part of such an empowering blogging community. If you have been asking the universe for guidance and inspiration lately, look no further.
